I used to Figma to design the site.
This site was built off of Vanilla:
Beans, HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
To build exactly to the spec I designed.
A lot of sites focus on just tech. I love programming, but I think soft skills are much more important. So, I wanted a site that was bold, stood out, and said something about myself while showcasing my tech skills.
There were a few things I wanted the site to do:
-
Everything should be easily accessible
-
Guide the user
-
Instant load
I prefer to keep text to a minimum. Less is more. There is still much work to be done in that regard.
Every aspect of the website should be crystal clear. I thought my site was easily accessible, but a great friend participated in usability testing. This helped me fine-tune everything.
I achieve instant load times by using vanilla HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Custom coding also allowed me to be creative and not think inside the Bootstrap Box. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It just was not what I was going for. \
However, I did flexibly think inside flexbox.
A responsive layout that works on all devices is essential.
Content
Layout and design are great, but nothing without the content. There was a lot of information I wanted to convey. I wanted the home screen to contain all my main points. Yet, I refused to use large amounts of text. They could read up on the sections if they were that interested.
Of containing that information, combining the fact that I possess soft and hard skills was difficult. I wanted to present an image that was open to non-technical collaboration while not looking bad to software recruiters.
So, my website was designed for both technical and non-technical people. The rationale is I eventually want to transition to STEM education.
